Una Stoffa… una Storia di Martina Grifoni

Per quattro giornate l’artista ha abitato il quartiere, invitando le persone a cucire insieme delle lunghe strisce di stoffa appese poi una accanto all’altra, a formare un grande arazzo. Gli abitanti sono stati chiamati a offrire un pezzo di stoffa legato al loro vissuto. I partecipanti hanno scritto sui pezzi scelti una parola contenente un desiderio per il quartiere.

I pezzi di stoffa sono diventati simbolo della presenza delle numerose nazionalità che convivono in città, ma anche della storia individuale di ogni persona che da molto lontano è arrivata a Prato e nel quartiere. La grande installazione è stata posizionata sul muro dello spazio in disuso Ex Ambrosiana, simbolo dell’abbattimento ideale del muro che da 15 anni rende inaccessibile questo vuoto urbano.

A Fabric… a Story by Martina Grifoni

The artist was in the neighborhood for four days, inviting people to sew long strips of fabric together. Those stripes were, later on, hung up side by side to form a large tapestry. The residents were asked to give a piece of fabric related to their own lives. On each chosen piece, they had to write a word expressing a wish for the whole neighborhood.

The fabrics symbolized the presence of all the different nationalities living in town, but they also expressed the personal history of all those who arrived in Prato and the neighborhood from very far away. The large installation was set on the wall of the Ex Ambrosiana disused area, symbolizing the ideal demolition of the wall, which has made that urban void inaccessible for 15 years.
